AzBT® 100K — The Ultimate Challenge

Trace de Trail : AzBT26 - 100K

The Azores Bravos Trail® 100K race is a demanding and profound journey across Terceira Island. It is endurance, persistence, and a direct confrontation with a landscape shaped by volcanism, the Atlantic, and human history.

The race starts at Miradouro do Facho, in Praia da Vitória, with the ocean marking the horizon. The route quickly gains altitude towards Serra do Cume, where the iconic Manta de Retalhos reveals itself in all its glory, forming one of the most emblematic landscapes in the Azores.

This is followed by the Trilho das Relheiras de São Brás, where the rock preserves the deep marks of the old carts, before passing through open meadows and climbing Pico do Boi. The descent leads to the dense Matas da Agualva, where the dense greenery offers coolness and brief relief before entering one of the most striking areas of the race.

Once in Agualva, the route immediately heads to Algar do Carvão, one of the island's great natural symbols. The descent into this dormant volcano is a unique, almost solemn moment of direct contact with the bowels of the Earth. Back on the surface, athletes face the mythical Trilho dos Mistérios Negros (Trail of Black Mysteries), a rugged and impressive landscape marked by the 1761 eruption, where the technical terrain demands total concentration.

The route then descends towards the north coast, reaching Biscoitos, where the basalt vineyards and proximity to the sea herald a clear change of environment. From here, the race gains altitude again, leading athletes to the most symbolic point of the Azores Bravos Trail®.

The arrival at Rocha do Chambre, the true emblem of the event, is one of the most memorable moments of the race. From the top, the wide view over the island offers a powerful perspective of the route already covered and the challenge overcome. It is a point of contemplation, effort, and identity, where the spirit of AzBT® is felt in its fullness.

After Rocha, the route continues south of the island, crossing demanding trails and open landscapes, with fatigue already very present. The entrance to Angra do Heroísmo, a UNESCO World Heritage city, marks the beginning of the final effort. The historic streets lead athletes to the Relvão Municipal Park, where a tough, intense, and unforgettable race ends.

Completing the 100K Azores Bravos Trail® is more than just finishing a race. It is crossing the island, facing its wild nature, and coming out transformed by the experience.

AzBT® 50K — The Essence of Challenge

Trace de Trail : AzBT26 - 50K

The Azores Bravos Trail® 50K race is intense, technical, and deeply identity-defining. It represents a serious challenge, ideal for those looking for a demanding but balanced distance, where effort management is as important as physical strength.

The race starts in the parish of Agualva, in a rural setting that quickly gives way to natural terrain. In the first few kilometers, the route enters the volcanic heart of the island, passing through Algar do Carvão. The descent into this dormant volcano is one of the most memorable moments of the race, offering direct contact with the geology of Terceira.

Back on the surface, the route continues to the Trilho dos Mistérios Negros (Trail of Black Mysteries), one of the most emblematic segments of the event. The landscape shaped by the 1761 eruption, the uneven terrain, and the almost primordial environment demand constant attention, balance, and endurance.

As the race progresses, the challenge really comes into its own on the long climb up to Rocha do Chambre, the great symbol of the Azores Bravos Trail®. The climb is demanding and continuous, but the reward comes in the form of a wide and striking view, capable of compensating for all the accumulated effort.

The route continues through Caldeira Guilherme Moniz, a vast landscape of pastureland where contact with nature is constant. Further ahead, the climb up Serra do Morião signals the approach to the end of the race. From the top, the view over Angra do Heroísmo, Monte Brasil, and the Atlantic reinforces the feeling of achievement.

The descent leads athletes directly to the heart of the city, along historic trails and streets, to the finish line at Parque Municipal do Relvão. Completing the 50K Azores Bravos Trail® is a demanding, intense, and deeply rewarding challenge.
